IHG has come up with an interesting offer for weekend stays in Japan. When you book this exclusive rate, you get an option to choose your perk at check-in. You can pick between daily F&B credit, and room upgrade for your stay.

The offer is valid until 31 May 2024 for stays on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only.

Here’s how it works.

Once you have booked the eligible rate from the offer page above, you are given two options at check-in.

Option 1: Daily F&B credit.

When you pick this option, you get a JPY5,000 Food & Beverage credit per room per night. This is a daily credit that, in most cases, should be used daily.

A daily credit for eligible on-property food and beverage charges made for each day of a stay will be applied to your final bill.

Note that the credit is per room, and per night.

Option 2: Complimentary room upgrade.

If you pick this option, you will get a complimentary room upgrade to the next room category for the duration of the stay.

Note that it’s a next category upgrade. It could just be a room with a better view or a higher floor. Or if you have booked the room just below a suite, it could be a luxurious suite.

However, since you have to decide at check-in, you can always check if the upgraded room is worth giving up JPY5,000 daily credit for.

There may not be any higher category rooms available at the hotel during check-in. If this happens, you will need to choose the Food and Beverage option. The later you check in, the less likely you are to receive an upgrade.

In case you are wondering, no, you can’t make an upgrade request prior to check-in.

Option 3: Double upgrade.

IHG Platinum and IHG Diamond members are entitled to a double upgrade that is two categories higher than the room they initially booked.

However, there might be instances where an upgraded room isn’t available. In such cases, you may have to accept F&B credits or an upgrade to just one category higher room.

You can check if you qualify for any IHG status match or instant upgrade opportunities.
